The Website with a Heart:
Our Interactive Business Community Concept
by Tom LeBlanc
Wouldn’t you agree that Success is Important to All of Us? We all have goals and dreams. But have you noticed how it feels to help someone else to succeed? How did you feel when you helped your child learn to ride a bike or catch a fish? How did you feel when you encouraged a friend or coworker and saw them regain their strength and confidence?
Many have discovered that helping others to succeed is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I’ve experienced that joy on a daily basis through my 30 years of practicing physical therapy. I experienced it many hundreds of times with the readers of a study guide I wrote for McGraw Hill Publishers. Often times I found myself getting more excited about their success than they did. I tell you -- I’m hooked on it! I am hooked on helping others to succeed. It’s like a shot in the arm.
It is my desire to attract people two kinds of people to this Website: Those who are looking for a little help in their journey to success and those who want to extend their hand to offer a little help. I think you will agree that each of us takes turns being both types of people. At times we are confident and strong and moving forward while at other times we feel weak and stuck and could use a helping hand or an encouraging word.
Our goal and passion is to encourage and inspire a community feeling among our site’s visitors. We feel that everyone is an expert in something. Each person has a unique collection of experiences that the group can benefit from. We welcome and encourage your participation. By sharing your business ideas, articles, testimonials, and encouraging words with our community we will all benefit and we’ll take turns experiencing the joy of giving help and receiving help. I want this Website to become known as “the place” to come whenever you want to give or receive help. I want it to be know as “The Website with a Heart.”
The following heartwarming story came across my e-mail desk. The timing was perfect because I had just finished sharing from my heart about our community concept when it arrived. This story summarizes it all.
Subject: A Very Special Event
This One is Priceless!
Some people understand life better, and they call some of these people retarded???"
At the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash.
At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one little boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times, and began to cry.
The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back...
Then they all turned around and went back...... every one of them. One girl with Down's Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, "This will make it better."
Then all nine linked arms and walked together to the finish line. Everyone in the stadium stood. The cheering went on for several minutes.
People who were there are still telling the story... Why?
Because deep down we know this one thing: What matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.
If you pass this on, we may be able to change our hearts as well as someone else's. "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle."
(Our gracious thanks goes out to the unknown author of this story and to all the winners in that race who have set an example for us to follow.)
